It used to alarm me a little to come across black-tailed deer at close range. (It alarmed the deer too.)
They really have a way of popping up suddenly when I'm walking and thinking about something else (or nothing).
"Is she looking at me?"
"I better run."
"Whew, safe at last!"
But I'm used to them now ... for me, spotting deer is one of the joys of spending summer in the country.
Not all the neighbors agree. But I figure deer were here first. And there's lots of country -- enough for all of us.
