These pictures are all "rescues" from my photo-sorting project while we were still at Upriver RV Resort (in Florida).
Thanks to Eileen at SATURDAY CRITTERS for providing the incentive to save them.
This tortoise was having a slow crawl through the grass when we stopped at an Ocala rest stop on one of our roadtrips.
This well-camouflaged old toad was hopping through a vacant lot. I think it's called an American Toad. But am not sure.
This guy was keeping a close eye on Upriver Canal from his rocky perch. Wikipedia tells me there are over 6,000 species of lizard. I have no idea which one this is. (This is an extreme close-up. He was small -- not as small as the anoles we see on our porch but smaller than he looks here.)
This frog (or could it be a toad?) caused me some distress. First thing in the morning we saw him asleep on our front porch, lying on the sliding door track. I was afraid for him as he looked somewhat the worse for wear. He stayed in that position for at least three hours, but we could see him breathing. Thinking maybe he needed his sleep, I didn't want to try to pick him up. (Besides, I didn't know if I should toss him in the water or into the grass in the wetlands across the street). We were very careful in opening the screen door, lest we cause him more injuries. We missed seeing him hop away, but there was no sign of carnage, so I hope he made it to wherever he wanted to be.
