Sometimes a place just seems to speak your name; we felt like that almost as soon as we arrived at Upriver Resort. It's on the water! The people are friendly and active, the country location is peaceful, but city amenities are within easy driving distance. We felt right at home.
We have avoided becoming "Snow Birds" (people who just travel back and forth between two places) and have been staying in a different warm part of the country each winter. BUT--we really, really, like this place.
So we soon decided that we wanted to come back again.
The only disadvantage is that it's a long way from family! We had a great road-trip getting here last Fall, but it would be a bit long to do all over again another time.
So while we were weighing our options for next season and thinking about how much we wanted to come back, we learned that a Park Model RV on the canal here in the resort was for sale. We did some more thinking and planning and we bought it!! That's it in the picture above, with our boat at our dock in front of it. The picture is taken from across the canal. The model next door is shuttered up for the season (hurricane preparation).
So its a new chapter in our Full-Time Life. The fifth-wheel will be our West-Coast and traveling home. It and the Baby Freightliner will be stored while we're at the "Canal Cottage", our East-Coast home.
We are getting ready to leave Upriver in a day or two. A task definitely complicated because we have to shut down the park model as well as get the fifth-wheel ready for another road trip. That's a task that is hard enough anyway when we've been parked in one place for a while. When we're on the road and moving every day or so, it's easy to remember the packing-up and hooking-up routines, but you kind of forget when you've been stationary for awhile.
We're looking forward to the road trip and seeing family and favorite familiar places. Because it's spring, we'll be able to take the Northern route so we'll see some new places as well.
We're also looking foward to next winter at Upriver Resort and seeing friends here as well as having the chance to explore more of the area and the state. There's a lot we didn't have time for this year!
Thank you Krystal! Next winter will be fun and different for us. We really love that area and the people. We've been full-timing in the RV for so long that it's looking a little bit complicated though; it's been a while since we've had two places to call home. For right now, we're just enjoying the road trip!
