Francisca

This was a fun interactive post, Sallie...with great shots!

Ebie

Hi Sallie, I could not even guess it. I have never heard of limpkins, but they look like herons to me. Nice reflections of the birds.

Arti

Never heard about them before but Nice to know about them, The Limpkins!

Nicole

Oh, they are gorgeous - all of them.
I never even heard of that species before - way cool that you got a new one :D!

Inger-M

Wonderful birds- awesome shots! :-)

JM

Limpkin? Never heard of these before and they are wonderful! Now I have to find out the portuguese name...

Done! But never heard it either. :-)

 Annie

They are really beautiful ! Like you I thought they were little herons. I search on my dictionnary "Limpkin" and found "Courlan" : A new bird for me ! Thanks as usual, Sallie !

bettyl

Lovely shots of wonderful creatures!

Pam

Beautiful shots, Sallie! The first time I saw a Limpkin I didn't know what is was either.

be well, be happy
Pam

note, we loved traveling along the real west coast but we didn't get up to see your Oregon coastline :(

diane

Even if you can't identify them(like me) you can still enjoy their beauty and these are lovely.

Hazel

Magical photos!

Lady Fi

LaVoice

I think all birds are interesting to watch. You certainly found plenty to enjoy.

Margot

How exciting to meet a new-to-you bird. They sure are elegant looking birds. Lovely photos Sallie.

Joy

Limpkin, new bird to me too, they are lovely photographs. I can almost hear the ripple of water.

phyllis oller

It`s always a thrill to find a new bird,great photos,phyllis

Mick

Great photos and how nice to see and photograph a new bird.

Goodies for a pleasant life

Nice birds. LG Tina

Fotokarusellen

Really some great pictures. A beautiful bird.

Martha

Nice bird shots of birds I don't see here. I do see a lot of great blue herons and I don't think that is what you have. It lacks the black crest and has white pants rather than the brown of the great blue. It may be a tricolored heron, I'm not sure.

holdingmoments

Lovely captures.
It's great that fellow bloggers can come along and help out with ID's like this.

Sondra

I think its a Limpkin as well...and a great shot of it too!!

Hilke Breder

Great capture of limpkins! They are not easy to see, let alone get such clear images. I was hoping to see one when traveling to Florida, but no such luck.

Eileen

Great sightings and birds, Sallie! I love seeing the juveniles this time of year.

Arti

So adorable, these pretty little birdies! Gorgeous captures Sallie, loved watching them :)

Carletta

Cute title Sallie for these wonderful captures!
I love the reflection too.
I can't ID them for you but I agree with it being a good birding day!!!

Amila

They are all very beautiful!

Barb

Well - you've shown me something new again, Sallie - who ever even heard of a Limpkin!

Clair Z.

Oh, dear. I've been reading too much news. Your blog title made me think that some crime had been committed by "unknown juveniles." I prefer your version, very nice photos.

springman

That is a remarkable sighting! My Audubon guide confirms MainBirder's suspicion...A Limpkin it is! Great catch!

MaineBirder

Maybe a Limpkin. Great images!

fjällripan

Beautiful photos and birds, especially the blue one.

Boom & Gary

Great photos!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

theconstantwalker

Lovely birds to see...will keep calling back to see if they are identifird.

Frank

From way over here after consulting my copy of Sibley I'll suggest that these are Limpkin.

Inger-M

They are so cute, whatever kind they are!
