The photos are from our recent roadtrip. We took the Narrow Gauge steam train from Silverton to Durango. The track passes through narrow canyons in the San Juan Mountains along the Animas River.
Narrow is the operative word. At times, you could have reached out and touched the canyon walls.
All of these photos were taken leaning out of our train window, at places where the canyon was just a little wider.
The train has to stop at about the half-way point to take on water. Otherwise it would run out of steam. Literally.
Ive always wanted to do that trip but never got to so far--Dang it!! Looks like tons of fun--keep on chuggin'

Nice shots - I would love to take this railroad one of these days. It's one of those things on my list to do before I leave Colorado.

you haven't missed much on the east coast.. except, smoke fill air from wild fires, gray skies and afternoon thunder storms. Enjoy you visiting time.. be well and happy :D

I'm glad you didn't stick your neck out when the train was hugging the canyon wall, Sallie! But not surprised we share a love of drive-by shooting. These are marvelous. But when did get on a train? What happened to the van?
[I can't swear to it, but I think the stakes on the farm are for vineyards. I've had some lovely wine in Romania!]

What a great little train, love steam. Sitting on a narrow gauge train and the scenery drifting past is a great way to see a valley, so unique to go through a canyon.
