The picture below is an enlargement of a sign posted on the front porch of Seminole Estate, the winter home of Thomas Edison and family (now a public museum and visitor center). It is on the Caloosahatchie River in Fort Myers. (This picture is one of Edison's many inventions.)
Here's a link to an earlier post about our first visit to the Edison Estate in case you missed it. Taking part in Signs Signs
So that was how people knew how to behave if they were lucky enough to spend some time visiting the Edisons (at least one of whom obviously had a good sense of humor!)
Didn't see that sign but sounds right for old Tom LOL.. Had food poisoning felt pretty bad for a couple weeks..

I'd like to know the purpose of the black snakes under the porch! What a fun sign!

What a great find. I guess if their guests didn't have a sense of humor, they could stay home.

I wonder which member of the family wrote the sign. Such a great sense of humor. It has the feel of a brother. I'm also curious about the use of cabbage. Must be a slang term.

Funny rules! "Cabbaging" fishing poles is a new one to me!

LOL...FUNNY stuff I stayed in a motel owned by a Navajo woman...she put little signs on things like "Dont clean your dirty boots with my pretty white towels."

It sounds as though you would have a fun time stopping with the Edisons.

I don't get the cabbage reference at all. though I am known to have to work out my disposition on occasion.

I enjoyed this Sallie!
I've heard a lot of slang in my life but to 'cabbage' something is new to me.
I'd be a little weary of snakes under the porch. :)
Loved the Palm Beach line!

A nice glimpse back in history.

Don't cabbage unto yourself? I think I understand, but I have never seen cabbage used that way.
