Oh yes they are edible, can make a tea for that too.

If it's about the size of a medium cherry tomato, it could be rose hip. In the Netherlands they use it to make jam (very tasty). Hve no idea how it would taste when uncooked.

In Alsace, where I lived before we prepare jam with rose hips ! It's a difficult and long work but in the morning, during breakfast it's so tasty !

I haven't seen wild roses in more years than I care to count, they hold there own unique beauty for me. Rose hips are pretty to look at and perfectly named, not to sure I'd want to eat one.
