FOR WORLD BIRD WEDNESDAY. Go there for virtual birding at it's finest.
There's just something magical about a pink bird! We watched (and fed) birds for years before we sold our home in Springfield, but in the Pacific Northwest you don't see birds like this. So when we spotted Roseate Spoonbills on one of our first RV trips south we were enchanted. We were staying at Port Aransas Texas on that trip -- and it was pre-digital camera. Those were simpler times. I was thrilled just to spot birds. And I do try to remember those times now when I can't get a picture -- it's still a good thing after all just to spot a bird (almost any bird).
On a later trip, thankfully with camera, we saw these lovely pink birds in the bayous of Louisiana (these pictures were all taken there). Now we see them occasionally in Florida and I still get excited every time we do. Even looking at these pictures makes me happy. It's magic even if all you really spot is a stretched out pink wing:
I think, the only pink bird we have in France is the flamingo : we can see it just in Camargues, in the south . Your shot (digital or not) are always beautiful ! Thanks to you !

Hi Sallie, they are beautiful to look at aren't they. My sister and and I once encountered a flamingo as it flew across the road right in front of us. Pink birds look so lovely and are easy to spot.
hugs,
Pam

Hi Sallie, I have never saw a pink bird, except for the flamingos. Sorry, I had to repeat what Joo said, but that's what's in my mind when I saw the photo.

Hi there - we have two species of spoonbill in Australia - both white. Pink would be a bit of a shock!
Nice story.

I'm excited seeing your pictures! I am especially drawn to the nest. Such a big bird in such a matronly pose.

What lovely birds, Sallie. Your pictures are beautiful too, and make a wonderful substitute for seeing them in all their birdlike splendour, as I am not likely ever to do.

The Roseate Spoonbill is a beautiful bird. What a great sighting and photos. A few years ago one of these birds made up to the Delaware-Md line. Of course I missed seeing it, I had to work at that time.

We saw them on a visit to Ding Darling several years ago. They are hard to miss with their bright color.
