So interesting, Sallie. Makes me want to get out and do some traveling in an RV like you and not like Lewis and Clark.

What a sign! Nothing like telling it like it is!

Ebie

Sigh, what's so dismal about this beautiful place? Love those scattered leaves!

RedPat

Love it! sounds like it is a perfect name for the experience that they had!

Penny

I was cold a damp just going out to get the mail. I cannot imagine the dismal weather the explorers experienced, Sallie. Great shots and remembrances.

Marilyn

What a name but I can see how it was named from those quotes!

Carletta

We can only imagine how very dismal it must have been for them. I haven't even ventured outside today because it's in the 40's. I would not have been a good explorer.
Thanks for sharing Sallie. I too had never heard of this.

Margot

We've been down that highway but didn't know the relationship between the stop and the L&C journal. Next time . . .

Pat

First impressions really stick!

TexWisGirl

Lesley

Sadly, I laughed when I saw the sign. Poor souls do sound as if they were having a rough time of it.

Andy

Now I know why I don't go camping any more.

Francisca

Interesting that the name Dismal Nitch stayed! Perfect post for the Signs meme.

[Sallie, there are very few unforgivable sins in my book... and a wrong link isn't even in it. :-D ]

Gemma Wiseman

Great to see a sign representing a moment of emotional crisis! A reminder that others have suffered before you!

Annie-France

Hazel

Priceless-and one I'd never heard of. Thanks, Sallie, for the info too.
