We live now at 3000 feet and go just near, at St VĂ©ran, the European higntest village at 6500 feet ! At this altitude I find that air is like water you can "touch" it (it's difficult to e to explain that !). At the beinning I'm always a little short-breathed but quickly all is fine and I like a lot to be there !

Francisca

Beautiful panorama! I had a mild case of altitude sickness some years ago when I forgot how high up I was and went for a brisk stroll. A good way to learn! Now I get prepared...

Nicole

wow, it must have been amazing to be on top of things, wow!

Pam

Forwarned is forarmed.. they tell it like it is.. Dangerous.. but deliriously beautiful and enticing.
Fantastic shots and views.
:)

Ebie

I could feel the thin air at higher elevation. Trust me, I feel danger around me driving all the way to the top. I say, you are brave!

ramblingwoods

Beautiful...but scary too

Carver

Wow, these are stunning shots. What a beautiful place. I would love to go there sometime. Altitude sickness is a serious matter though so good that they have the warnings.

Margot

Wow - your pictures take me right there. I can smell that clean, light air and those gorgeous pine trees. I'm glad you took me there today.

TexWisGirl

it's not exactly a welcome mat, is it?! :)

Pat

BEAUTIFUL photos! When our kids were young, we all went to Pike's Peak in Colorado. All of us got altitude sickness except my husband. I got a headache and my heart beat fast, my daughter's heart beat fast, as did my son, who also had a bloody nose. The kids felt nauseated, too! Oh what fun!

There are signs like this when Bud and I went into Rocky Mt. National Park. He was able to walk up to the highest point (for tourists) , but I had to come back down with his help. I almost lost it. I cannot imagine driving p that high. Glad you made it back saw and sound. genie

rebecca

Oh yes, we visited Pike's Peak after spending a vacation at sea level. Big mistake...it took me a while to figure out why my otherwise happy child was completely miserable. But we did sea a mountain lion...which made it worth the misery!

dianne

I experienced a bit of that on one of my trips to CO
thankfully it passed

I love the way snow on a mountain looks
so beautiful

Lady Fi

I bet the air was deliciously clear up there!

Wayne

I love the Rockies, my last trip there was on a motorcycle :-) Great backdrop for the sign!

Andy

Why would I climb all the way up there when I can get the same side effects at the local bar :-)

HAZEL

Beautiful mountain views-and what a sign! I used to feel light-headed even at the summit of Mount Pilatus in Switzerland,(2128m)

Leovi

Truly a magnificent frame with a delicious light and a beautiful sky with wings snowy mountains.

Lindy MacDuff

That is quite a warning but necessary. Awesome views!

Luna Miranda

Jenn Jilks

That's quite a trip. So, your son took you?! Did you write your will?!
Thanks for visiting!

Nick

Wow, sounds ominous! However, the stunning views are worth the risks...

Inger-M

I have been up to 12000 feet in the Colorado Rockies, from Estes Park. I felt the thin air, but didn't experience any discomfort. The view up there is breathtaking, you're really on top of the world! Great shots!

RedPat

A dangerous place! Glad that you survived the journey to the top.
