For OUR WORLD and MOSAIC MONDAY
We went with a group from our RV Park on a guided boat tour. This is NOT the boat:
The Fiddler is a remnant of Hurricane Charley in August 2004. It was wrecked somewhere else and deposited here by the storm. This is right near the dock at Lake Suzy where our group left for the tour.
Here is a sampling of some of the other sights along the quiet Peace River:
The birds are a few of the usual suspects: a great white egret, storks in a rookery, and an ibis. And of course you can't be on the water in Florida without seeing alligators.
The picture below is what remains of a ghost town:
These brick pilings were part of a barge dock at the former town of Liverpool. It was settled in 1880 after the discovery of phosphate in the area. There was a drying plant and barge for transportation of the product. The town thrived for a few years, but by the early 1920s the phosphate supply was gone and the town had disappeared.
Thanks to the hosts of both memes: Mary for Mosaic Monday and Jenn and the team for Our World.
When I saw the boat I thought to the film "The African Queen" and to the so beautiful Katherine Hepburn..
I like to visit ghost towns in the US. But, poor Liverpool, the rests are really small.

I have never gotten to see a gator in the wild.
This week for Our World Tues, I shared about a trip to Louisiana, we were all over the bayous & waterways, but never saw a gator, as we were told it was their dormant season.
I love a good ghost town & history, too.
Thanks for sharing!

I had to laugh and I'm glad that wasn't the boat. When I used to do a lot of sailing, I had some experience with capsizing small boats. Looks like a great tour.

Well I am glad that is NOT the boat! Looks like you had an interesting tour.
Have a wonderful week. I am linking up to you through Our World Tuesday.

Abandoned boats always make a nice picture, don't they? Lovely pictures of the marsh, mangroves and birds.

It looks like a very interesting boat trip. Very interesting that the brick pilings from the dock are the only thing left of the town.

Sounds like fun!
Just as long as is was "A Three hour Tour"

Oh, I'm glad that isn't your tour boat ;) A great mosaic Sallie!

I immediately thought of Gilligan with that first shot and then you said you took a tour. Right away I'm singing along. :)
Lovely mosaic! I don't think I'd ever get used to seeing alligators. They are one animal that creeps me out. :)
Liverpool - that was actually my address growing up. The little town was quite a few miles from where we lived but our mail came out of there until they changed the system in the 70's or 80's to be more specific to where you actually lived. It was fun saying my address was Liverpool when the Beatles came over. :)

I wonder if a ghost might live on the Fiddler...although, it is a sad reminder of what huge massive storms can do, it does set one's imagination to going.

Interesting old boat -- needless to say, I was relieved to read that it wasn't the one you were on!! Great history and lovely birds and terrific captures, Sallie!! Enjoy your week!

great shots, and some interesting history.

love the bits of history - bet there's a lot of remnants if you care to hunt for them.

The old boat is cool but I'm surprised some group doesn't want to get rid of it. Most would think it's an eyesore.

Cool shots! I haven't seen any gators yet, but I'm sure they'll be surfacing soon. That old rusty boat shot is awesome! Looks like a fun tour.

Off course, this in not the boat.

Must have been a very nice tour ! Fortunately not in this half sunken boat, lol !

It looks so peaceful and lovely - who could have guessed about the town that disappeared? That sunken boat is lovely!

ghost town on the water - that's a new one for me. :)

Beautiful pictures. That boat looks like it has a story to tell. But I'm glad that wasn't your tour boat.

Sallie, I bet that was a wonderful tour on Peace River. Great pics. The first one made me giggle when you said NOT that boat! I should hope not! Thanks for the tour.

Ah, so the Peace River is not always as peaceful as it might seem. I wish I could ride along with you, Sallie.

Sallie, what a nice boat tour. I love the all the birds and the even gator sighting is cool. Sad about the boat and the lost town. Wonderful mosaic!
Posted by: Eileen | February 24, 2013 at 03:31 PM
Interesting tour! I find the history of the lost town to be sad, although that is what happens...

So glad that wasn't the tour boat :)
Lovely series of photos.

Great photos! I really love the first one, the Fiddler. It looks like a scene from a movie set. I visit Florida often and of course I've seen the shots like the one with the gator. Thanks for sharing these.......

I love the photo of the old boat Fiddler and your mosaic is wonderful with the wildlife there. Pamela

Looks so tranquil, even with the lurking alligator.
Just goes to show with that deposited boat how ferocious and dangerous those Caribbean hurricanes are.
Here it is "pouring" rain and not likely to stop with monsoons from the north and rain coming up from the south.
Floodings again all up the coastline of NSW! Yet, bush fires raging inland still in Victorian and Southern NSW.
A new fancy picket fence across the road has just collapsed, too much moisture. The owners are both at work, and the two dogs are loose. Oh dear! Ian and Linda will NOT be happy.

I love taking boat tours in Florida, you see so many wonderful creatures and learn historical data about an area. Guess they're not worried about things leaching from the boat into the water.

Seems like the old boat is an added attraction. I say, leave it there.
