We've seen yellow-crowned night herons before, when we were purposely out and about looking for birds, but this is the first one I've seen on our Canal. I really expected it to fly before I could get my camera out.
But instead, he seemed to want to pose for me.
Is this my best side?
Or does this one show my white plume better?
And check out my beautiful feather pattern.

Spotted on an otherwise ordinary morning walk along the canal and sharing with WORLD BIRD WEDNESDAY, the best birding on the web. Thanks to Stewart.
A very nice series, Sallie...and your close-ups are excellent. I'm not sure I've seen one of these - not in Ocala at least. Sometimes herons are quite skittish...maybe this one figured you had some fish in that box you were pointing at it! :)

Oh Sallie, these are fabulous photos of your night heron. Well done, such a great job on those close-ups.
I also had to say how much your recent comment made me laugh, because you hit the nail on the head. We also keep forgetting our hats and now have quite a collection from various places we have visited. Thank you for the smile.
Cheers,

Great up-close and personal shots Sallie. I've not had the pleasure of an encounter with a night heron yet.

Could that be what could be a real "poser".
Sure seems to like having "his/her" photo taken.
