Also known as a "Flame Tree", the Royal Poinciana blooms in late May and early June. It's not native to this area, but is yet another exotic species that does beautifully here. We see the bright red flowers in every neighborhood.
Another bonus for those of us who don't head North too early.

wwo, taht was really red. And such an unusual shape. First I thought it was that tree they have for christmas. But this is much more interesting.

We had some poinciana bushes near our pool at our first house in Ocala. They'd freeze up every winter but usually came back, except for one time. Boy are they hard to trim and get out of the ground! Love them, though. I remember how ubiquitous they were in south Florida.
