We stayed at home last week. But thankfully our photo archives have some fairly decent leftovers to fill up a post. Or maybe I could call them planned-overs. (That always sounds better when I'm talking about filling up with what remains in the refrigerator.)
Hendricks Park, earlier this month
Although City Parks are open, the Parks Department has asked families to forgo the Eugene tradition of visiting Hendricks Park on Mother's Day. They have a virtual tour on line. We didn't even know it was a Mother's Day tradition and were glad we visited during an earlier and quieter week. Since it is the height of the season, in normal times it would certainly be a perfect spot for the day however. So this turned out to be a pretty good week to serve up the rest of our rhody tour. Happy Mother's Day!
Below are some leftovers from last month -- still good to go I think:
Along a Missouri highway, April 2020 Road-trip
This Road Sign seemed appropriate not only for our April road-trip, but also for the times in general.
There's actually more than just a street -- Peculiar is a City in Missouri. The town motto is "Peculiar, where the 'odds' are with you." I like it -- and its too bad that our peculiar circumstances didn't allow us to explore the area a little more!
Burns RV Park, Eastern Oregon
A large covey of quail kept us entertained at one of our overnight stops on our April trip. It's always nice when there are natural areas right near an RV Park. We didn't even have to walk out of the Park to visit this brambly area, where we saw (and heard) quail and songbirds. A relaxing way to end a day of driving.
Now back to earlier this month:
I thought that all the "not-rhododendron" pictures I took at Hendricks were from the Native Plant Garden, but I wonder now about the top left picture! Those look like Japanese Iris to me. They do grow wild around here though -- there are some in the Pond area near our daughter's and also in their yard.
I did take a lot of pictures of yellow rhody shrubs -- because I had never seen them in that color before. And because yellow flowers are always favorites for me. Like spots of sunshine!!
But who could ever grow tired of rhododendrons in their more traditional color palette:
The glory of Spring in Eugene!
A paler shade of yellow
A little blue sky peeking through behind this home in our daughter and son-in-law's neighborhood (really their backyard). These neighbors were social-distancing last time I was there because they didn't even poke their heads out. I'll try again next time!

The post is a floral treat! I love yellow too ..... bright and cheerful. The quail sighting is awesome. Not to forget how 'peculiar' is the name :)

Beautiful pictures ! Me too I have to dig in my archives for pictures ! For mother day we were allowed to receive 4 peoples and always the same. That still counts. We continue our meetings and that's good. Our children couldn't come, so we celebrated Mother's day the three of us !

Super photos Sallie :) Fabulous serious of flowers and how I enjoyed your covey of quail. The only time I have ever seen them was when we were up in Washington State several years ago. Such a fun sight to see. You’re right about the sign. Says it all doesn’t it?

Oh my goodness when I was growing up we had quail in our yard a lot. That's country living LOL but I haven't seen any in years.

Great images of the quail - I love them. Sometimes we hear them in our neighborhood and I always see them when I am at the lake (which, of course, I haven't been since March 18th). The rhodys are stunning - the color palette is amazing.

You are right Sallie. I can never get enough of the rhododendrons. I am missing seeing the displays this year but your photos have made up for that. Thanks for sharing.
Posted by: Fun60 | May 13, 2020 at 09:59 AM
The flowers are really beautiful and ones that don't do very well where we live as its too hot in summer here, but I have seen some beautiful rhododendrons in the cooler parts of Australia. Thanks for sharing your photos. I have been slowly reading your blog travels and are similar to ours, loving the freedom of doing your own thing. It's a pity we live on the other side of the world as I think we would enjoy a chat.

Peculiar for sure! Your flowers are so great to see in autumn. And, I love the details of the quail that you captured.
Your corner is beautiful this week! Thanks for sharing it at the 'My Corner of the World' link up.

I was wondering what those birds were and thought they were partridges because they look like the opening credits from The Partridge family. "Hello world there's a song that we're singing, c'mon get happppyy."
The Native Plant Garden looks gorgeous, glad you had already visited.
Love the whole Peculiar Way thing and it is eerily on the nose and also smacks of The Hunger Games which is what it must feel like trying to get PPE.
Rhody is a term I'll try to work into a conversation this week.
I hope you're enjoying your spring at home.

Lovely colourful flowers! I also have no photos (except for a few food items I've made). It's kind of depressing :( Hope you are doing okay.

Planned overs, good idea!!!
As if I can plan ;-) No one would buy that!
That sign is a bummer! And clever, too.
Ahhh, the flowers! Sooo cold here - for May. 4C is brrrr... now finally up to 13, what to wear when going outside?!
P.S. "Japanese Iris"... you´ll find one on my blog tomorrow, LOL, what coincidences these days!

awwww, too bad they did not poke their heads out, just for a casual hi!! i love rhododendron, they are hard to grow "healthy" here!! i have never seen a yellow one and it is quite beautiful!! i see a lot of pinks and purples here, and it is almost time to start seeing them. right now, all of our dogwoods are in bloom. you have a lot of really beautiful flowers there in eugene!! i agree, quail are extremely entertaining!!! i like the clever title to this post!!

so much beauty for you to enjoy. I love to see the quails. A species I would love to see myself. But probably never will.
Take care, stay safe.

Some beautiful shots! So colorful & so alive! I can only look at plant life (flowers mainly) from afar because I'm allergic to bees. So sad because I love flowers. Thanks for sharing. Your birdhouse is adorable. Stay healthy & stay safe!

Beautiful. Spring is such a glorious time of year. Here autumn is fading into winter. At the beginning of all this I forced myslef to do a photo a day project. Even around the house there is always something. For several days I just photographed shadows! Stay safe and have a good week. I am joining you at Our World Tuesday.

Eugene quail are so plump, clean, and put together. The ones I see down here look smaller, straggly and harried as they scurry into the brush. How do quail sound? Kwa, kwa. Chip chip. I think the only place I've seen rhododendrons are in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. I'm guessing the flowers need a cooler climate to live. I wouldn't mind seeing spots of sunshine in the yard. Cheers, Sallie!

Those quail are really something to see! And the Spring flowers are beautiful there. We are dry here so the flowers are blooming but some are sparse. Take care and enjoy your week!

Quail are always cool to see.
I love the rhododendrons.
Amazing all the virtual stuff available these days.

I hope you had a happy Mother's Day! Your rhododendrons are gorgeous. All the public places where we would usually go and pay a fee to see special collections of them are closed. Some of our parks where some can be seen are now opening up and then we do have the wild variety growing prolifically in the countryside. We might be allowed to drive further afield very soon and it will be a joy to see these lovely flowers.

Neat quail photos … they remind me of musical notes the way you photographed them. The sky seems bluer, the air fresher, the birds fluffier and the flowers petal-lier. There’s a yin and yang to these strange times!

Sallie - happy Mother's Day! Originally I asked Hubby to take me for a walk around the nearest town - there is a historic district there that I would like to explore, and I am sure that many of the homes will have blooming landscaping. In the end, I decided I preferred to spend the time in my own garden. Pure joy! Thanks for sharing these "left-overs" with all of us at Mosaic Monday, although I agree that term really does not do these pictures justice!
