We stopped at California's Stone Lagoon State Park on our way to Arcata (previous post). I had so many bird pictures from there that I ran out of space, so this is a bit out of chronological order.
The Lagoons along this section of the Pacific Coast are shallow bays between rocky headlands. Wave action forms sand bars that separate each lagoon from the Ocean.

Stone Lagoon ( Chah-pekw O'Ket'oh in the Yurok language) is a place that has been sacred to the Yurok Indian Tribe since time immemorial. Today, the Visitor Center and the Park are managed cooperatively between the State of California and the Yuroks.
It was spa day for the lady Elks at the edge of this Lagoon.
We were away from the ocean on a backroad here . The country-side was beautiful too.
I never get tired of seeing Great Blue Herons
In real-time, I'm grateful that the days here in Eugene are cooling down to better temperatures for rambling photo-walks in the neighborhood and Fall colors are beginning to appear. On the other side of the country, Hurricane Helene and her water surge caused no damage to or around our Florida Canal Cottage. For that we are grateful, for the next storm we are hopeful, and for those who were in the path of the destruction we are so very sorry. Thank you to fellow Florida-blogger Dina who has an excellent post about the damages that the water surge caused near her home. Click here for a link ... the words in her very first picture are perfect.

Stone Lagoon looks like heaven ... for man and beast. It was good to know your haven in Florida wasn't effected by the storm. I, too, am appreciating the beginnings of Fall.

Again, your trip looks beautiful. It’s good news that your Florida place was undamaged by the hurricane.

Beautiful photos. That's such a pretty part of the country and an area I would really like to visit. I think I say that frequently about the areas you explore, but it's true!

What a beautiful spot! I love the Great Blue Herons—such stunning birds! It’s great to see the Yurok Tribe’s connection to the lagoon honored. Glad your Florida cottage is safe after Hurricane Helene. Enjoy those cooler days for your photo walks!

Lovely sights from CA's north coast. :)
It's nice to hear that your part of OR has begun to cool down. We're in the middle of another heatwave! Sigh! :) I'm looking forward to cooler days. :D
Happy fall and fall colors to you, Sallie. I look forward to seeing some colors of the season from 'your corner.':)
I'm also glad that things are fine with your place in FL. Hurricane season is a scary time!

So much sorrow from that hurricane though I am very thankful your property is ok.
Love your trip down our CA. coast and the photo of the Elk Spa is great. Hubby and I haven't been up that way in quite a few years and now our car just won't make it that far..so boo, we enjoy others trips instead.

It was good to read that your canal home was spared this time around. The devastation is so hard to see. I can't imagine being stranded without water or communication. Your trip south from your Oregon home was filled with interesting things to see. The spa herd is something else! Take care and I'll click over to Dina's post now.

I was thinking about your canal home and the damage you had with Ian when I heard south of us got hit as well. Glad to hear you guys didn’t have any damage this time. It’s been a long sad week. Thanks for the kind words.
